You equip a private cottage or apartment. Finishing materials were purchased, furniture was purchased, but there is an element that many people remember at the last moment. A mandatory attribute of each room is an apartment fire cabinet, the choice of which must be taken responsibly.

This piece of furniture is needed to place either a fire hydrant, or a fire extinguisher, or all together. The task of this inventory is not worth explaining for a long time. If there are fire fighting equipment nearby, in case of fire you can put out the fire in a timely manner. And the closet - so that they themselves remain unscathed in the event of a fire. This is a rather cumbersome construction, in which, in addition to the above, there is everything you need in case of fire: a life ladder, a crowbar, a nail puller, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight. Also a self-rescuer. This device resembling a gas mask. It is put on a head and protects from toxic products of burning.

By the method of placement, models are distinguished:

• mounted - those that hang on the wall;
• built-in - are located in niches without protruding above the wall plane;

Most often, silos are made of sheet steel. The presence of anti-corrosion coating and painting is mandatory - often “two in one”.

The most popular design is welded. The apartment fire cabinet should be a seamless box without seams. The only exception is the door.

Housing silos can be open or closed - with or without a glass window. Glass, of course, is not ordinary. Use hardened material: it is many times stronger and can withstand high temperatures. Glass should not be too strong - how can the famous “break in case of fire”? Arm yourself with something heavier.

Installation and placement rules

When choosing a place and placement, you should follow some simple rules:

• mount the silos in the place where it is convenient for you. Access to fire fighting equipment should be easy and unobstructed for all who are in the apartment. Make sure that the cabinet can be reached equally quickly from any corner of the room. It is best to place the unit in a corridor or hall;
• if the cabinet is with a fire hydrant - you need to choose a place with access to the water supply (but not a bathroom.) The temperature at the installation site of the silo should be in the range from +5 to +45. Humidity - up to 95%. That is why the bathroom is not suitable;
• the fire hydrant must be no higher than 1.35 m from the floor;
• normative documents say: the door of the apartment fire cabinet should open at least 160 degrees. Of course, a fire inspection will not come to your home and will not be fined for a smaller opening angle. The main thing is that the silos should open sufficiently for the prompt removal of the necessary tools. Do not hang it in places where the door will abut against foreign objects;
• take care of spare keys and make sure that they are not lost. Make as many duplicates as you need;
• in the silos there must be constant ventilation. There are special holes in the walls or doors for this. Install the cabinet so that nothing covers them;
• if you want a mounted silo - do not buy the built-in one. If you need a built-in - do not take the attached. The classification of fire cabinets by the type of fastening at first glance seems elementary, but it was invented for a reason. Each of the species meets clear standards. The silos are designed to hang or stand firmly on a particular surface. A side cabinet is too heavy to hang on a wall. Buy the model appropriate for the type and purpose.

• Look for the most suitable model for mounting type and size. Which cabinet is best for your home? Most often for apartments they buy small designs with one door;
• contact a trusted company. Ask the manufacturer for a license and quality certificate - even if the company has an enviable reputation and has been operating for more than a dozen years. Perhaps you will make an unexpected discovery;
• carefully inspect the cabinet you are about to purchase. Welding should be continuous. Peeling paint is an excuse to refuse the goods. Firstly, it speaks of base. Secondly, rust forms at the place where the paint leaves. A rusted cabinet loses efficiency. With the same success, you can put a fire hydrant or fire extinguisher somewhere on the nightstand. Do not waste money;
• rust on the cabinet is not permitted. High-quality anti-corrosion coating is the number one requirement for fire cabinets. If the manufacturer has failed even with basic rust protection, what can we say about the other properties of the product;
• the same applies to dents and chips. Fire safety items have no place for marriage;
• ventilation openings are an integral element of this piece of furniture. Make sure that the perforation is done qualitatively and is not obstructed by anything;
• check if everything is ok with the lock. Most modern silos open automatically at a temperature of 60-80 ° C. The door should open in a few seconds. If the mechanism sticks or sticks, discard the product.In an emergency, you cannot quickly open it;
• check expiration date. Long-term simple silos in the warehouse does not add to the reliability of the product. Check if you are trying to sell a product decommissioned several years ago;
• if you have chosen a fire alarm with a fire alarm - check if it is easy to unwind. The sleeve should be quickly released and not stuck.

Each silo should have a technical control stamp. The seal is placed by an employee of a special organization. This product tag is a guarantee that the silo complies with all standards and is ready for installation.
