When adjustment is needed
The problem of sagging or asymmetry of furniture doors can occur during furniture transportation or careless handling. Even the usual rearrangement of furniture can affect the position of the cabinet doors, especially when it comes to massive wardrobes. If the furniture is new, you need to adjust the doors during the assembly process. If the wings are loose or improperly fixed, a creak will appear during opening and closing, over time this will lead to scratches, and the door may simply fall off. Having spent a little time, you can give the cabinet a neat aesthetic appearance, it is enough to study the device of the mounting mechanisms and stock up with suitable tools.
Necessary tools
For adjustment work, the set of necessary tools is determined by the design of the hinges and cabinet. If the furniture is new, a screwdriver or a key of the right size can come with the assembly instructions:
- A classic cabinet with swing doors is equipped with two or more hinges. To adjust in this case, you need a curly screwdriver;
- To adjust the doors of the sliding wardrobe with sliding doors, you will need a hex key.
Regardless of the type of attachment of the wings, a level will be needed - with this tool you can check how smooth the structure is. This must be done before starting the adjustment work. The skew may have occurred due to uneven flooring or the presence of foreign objects between the floor and the cabinet.
Options for problems and solutions
Each type of furniture may have its own problems, which means that the problems of their solution may differ. Knowing the nuances of the furniture model, you can better understand how to adjust the cabinet doors.
For ordinary
If you carefully consider the mounting loop, you can see several screws. Each screw is designed to adjust the door in height, width or depth. There are several reasons leading to asymmetry of cabinet doors. You can not begin to fix the problem without inspecting the entire structure. During the inspection, the following defects may be identified:
- the cabinet is closed, with one sash above the other. To fix this, loosen the two screws that secure the door to the side of the cabinet and raise (or lower) the door to the desired level. At this point, you will need to maintain the sash, it will be very inconvenient to perform all the manipulations yourself. The holes for these screws are oval, so adjusting the height is quite simple. After the doors are on the same level, the screws must be tightened tightly;
- when closing at the cabinet between the doors, a gap is visible, tapering or expanding downward. The screw closest to the door is responsible for the width of the gap. With it, you can adjust the position of the wings. If the gap is wider in the upper part, you need to work with the screw on the upper loop, if the gap is larger from the bottom, you need to adjust the lower loop;
- in the process of opening the door rubs against the end of the side wall of the cabinet. The reason is the incorrect position of the screw closest to the back of the cabinet. To eliminate the defect, the screw must be loosened and pushed out a few millimeters. Next, you need to fix the screw and open or close the door several times. Ideally, the gap between the sash and the wall should not be very noticeable.
In order to prevent the occurrence of defects in cabinet doors, it is recommended that you check that the screws are locked in place from time to time. As a rule, frequent opening or closing of the cabinet leads to a gradual loosening of the fasteners. Timely tightening of the screws eliminates the need for re-adjustment.
Sometimes the number of hinges on the door is more than two. In this case, the loops in the middle loosen. After that, the position of the upper and lower loops is adjusted, and the intermediate ones are fixed back.
For wardrobe
How to adjust the closet doors? If you want to tidy up the sliding wings, the procedure will be slightly different. The most common problem is the skew of the door, in which case there will be a clearly visible gap in the upper or lower part of the cabinet. Another possible option is the incorrect position of the latch. Doors in this case open or close arbitrarily.
Elimination of the gap caused by the skew of the door is carried out in several stages.
- the sealing tape is carefully peeled off at the bottom of the end of the target, this will allow access to the adjusting screw;
- adjustment of the screw is carried out with a suitable hexagon wrench. If the door needs to be lowered, the key is turned counterclockwise; if it is necessary to fix the door higher, the key is rotated clockwise;
- rotational movements should be repeated until an acceptable result is achieved, the gap should be as invisible as possible;
- after reaching the desired position of the door, the seal must be glued into place.
The rotation of the key should be small and smooth, constant monitoring of the position of the sash is necessary. If the gap increases, the key must be turned in the opposite direction. It is advisable to bring an assistant to the repair, then the process will go much faster.
If the door closes spontaneously, you will need to adjust the stopper lock. The procedure in this case will be as follows:
- the sash is pushed against the cabinet wall and the position of the door roller in the groove is fixed. Marking can be done with a marker or with a simple pencil;
- Next, you need to move the latch to the marked location so that the recess on it corresponds to the desired position of the roller;
- close the cabinet - if the sash is locked correctly, the door will not roll back.
Subject to these simple rules, adjusting the doors of any cabinet will not take much time. Self-repair will save on the services of a master, and knowledge of the cabinet design will certainly come in handy in the future.
